As I watched the history channel and national geographic one fateful night when I was just a young girl in high school, I was appalled by the living conditions in some countries. Children have insufficient food, threadbare clothing or none at all, inadequate shelter and barely enough formal education. As we live comfortably in the safety bubble of our warm homes and apathetic lifestyles, people are dying because of sickness and wars in other parts of the world especially conflict-ridden countries like the Middle East and Africa. The gory details and bloody facts sickened me and I looked into it deeper in our local library.

In academic essays and independent, humanitarian studies and researches I have read, the body count and casualties of war including innocent women and children have steadily risen at an alarming rate. And the local government seem helpless in stopping the carnage because the perpetrators have better guns and more armaments and have the insatiable thirst for more blood and violence. Movies like Hotel Rwanda, Blood Diamond and Slumdog Millionaire show the extent and serious implications of the history of violence. But at the same time, they give a ray of hope because concerned people and everyday heroes can make the difference by actually helping and getting involved hands-on instead of relying solely on rhetorics and written principles.

Seeing the dedication and the admirable efforts of organizations and individuals to stop the violence and bloodshed, I decided to do my part. After graduation, I will go as a UNICEF volunteer to war-torn places and help in anyway I can especially safeguarding and keeping children out of harm's way. For now, I must stay in the university and earn my degree. But when I am not contributing to essay writing services and studying for exams, I do my part by organizing fundraisers and donation drives that will greatly help our fellowmen who are suffering in other parts of the earth. Every little thing helps and I hope that we would all do our part in the effort to alleviate the worsening global and human condition around the world.
